A non-domestic animal as reported by the National Geographic, a Malaysian tiger named Nadia in the Bronx Zoo has tested positive for the COVID-19.
This is the first case of its kind in the world of the non-domestic host.
Apparently the four-year old Nadia developed a dry cough in late March and finally tested on April 2nd.
Her sisters, two Siberian tigers, and three African lions have also had coughs and a loss of appetite, but have yet been tested.
We wonder why this has not yet been done?
It is surmised that the tiger contracted the virus from an infected person, perhaps an asymptomatic zookeeper.
This new information leaves more questions than answers in its wake…!
As our current “social isolation” given us a perspective on being “caged”?
Your thoughts on this recent development. Should we keep animals in cages? Are we the ones putting them at risk?

That this is so very sad…
💕💕💕
That sounds really dangerous.
I am not sure what to think.
I feel sad for the tiger, and I think that perhaps this is the time when we should consider whether or not zoos are a good idea.
I would much rather see these animals living in their natural environment.
I live on the sea, and see whales splashing around in the backyard.
Last year I supported a government bill to ban keeping marine animals in captivity.
Thanks for alerting us to the spread of the virus to the tiger. 🤗
I feel the same way as well. And with social distancing I hope we are really beginning to see how being out of their natural habitats are not good for these poor creatures and perhaps we can all do more to call for their release and ban this altogether.
Thank you for your consciousness, always.
Fascinating!! Thanks for this post Pene.
I want to see how this will develop. Thank you for visiting. Blessings!
Interesting, the experts were saying that animals couldn’t get COVID-19.
The experts are still trying to figure this virus out. Plus the poor animals that we lock in cages, its not right, then we subject them to diseases they would probably not come in contact with.
Yes, I know. I was implying that experts don’t know everything and don’t have all the answers. Although, we are thankful for the experts and medical science. I’m not an animal person, but I’m not down for animal cruelty.
I hear that. Blessings my dear.
Blessings to you as well!
I definitely think that we put animals in danger when we caged them. They catch diseases from humans easily. When they are in the wild if they are sick they know how to cure themselves because that is how God created them. One wonders why they do not test the others. They maybe ashamed to tell the results.
I agree with you. Perhaps this pandemic will open our eyes to right some of our wrongs.
My heart goes out to the tiger.
I know.
